Visual Arts Home Test Instructions
Part 1: Unit Measurement
Use an 8½"x11" piece of paper. Showcase the use of unit measurement by illustrating an interesting alignment of three chairs. Make sure you create a good overall design. Be as realistic in your measurements and illustration as you can. Your choice of materials can include pencil, ink, cut paper, or paint.
Do not use photographs as references.
Part 2: Portraiture
Use an 8½”x11" piece of paper.
Draw a self-portrait from a mirror or a portrait of a person in your family sitting in front of you. Your drawing should fill the entire page, including a background. Draw only from what is in front of you. Use pencil.
Do not use a photograph- only draw from a mirror or from looking at someone.
Part 3: Perspective
Use an 8½”x11" piece of paper. Showcase knowledge of 1pt perspective by illustrating a real life study of a still life, cityscape, or a room scene. Remember to draw on the entire page. Use pencil or black marker or ink.
Do not use photographs as references.
Part 4: Value
Use an 8½”x11" piece of paper.
Illustrate a still life and apply full value range in areas of the foreground mid ground and background. Use pencil for full value range.
Do not use photographs as references.
Part 5: Sketchbook
Showcase your talents. Include your ideas, a variety of subjects, draw from what you see in real time, demonstrate a variety of experiences in art and show us your strongest skills in your sketchbook.
Be sure to utilize full pages in sketchbook.
Additional Notes:
Do not do the home test drawings the night before the interview. Take your time. Show us the best you can do. Draw from observation. You may ask your art teacher for advice, but only you may work on your home test.
